Hello! My name is Shannon and, as you can see from the title of my website, I “heart” art. I enjoy all types of creative things, but I began oil painting when I was just 5-years-old. I enjoyed it because it was something new, I was in charge of what I was doing, AND it was fun! That same year, I won 2nd place in my age group at the Tennessee State Fair. It was the first oil painting I’d ever done. In 2015, I won first place with this painting of Paris. In 2016, I won first place with this still life painting, along with the award for Best of Show and the People’s Choice Award. I am also the inaugural recipient for the 2016 Tennessee State Fair’s Youth Artist of the Year. In 2017, I won first place with this Fall Harvest painting.
You can also find some of my earlier work at local businesses, such as Nashville Veterinary Specialists, where a few pieces hang in some of their exam rooms, or downtown at Elliston Place Soda Shop. My work has also been featured in the annual fundraiser for Nashville’s Rocketown, as well as the annual Art & Soul event benefitting the nonprofit organization Project Connect Nashville.
In 2018 at 11-years-old, I had the privilege of illustrating a children’s book about an extraordinary crow named Oli Kai. All paintings were done on 12×12 canvases, and are now, along with the book, on permanent display at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Watch a news story or learn more about Oli at Reflection Riding in Chattanooga.
In 2019, my work was used in the set design for the movie “Roll with It” featuring Chonda Pierce. I was also honored to be the inaugural recipient of the Myles Maillie Emerging Young Artist Award at the 2019 Tennessee State Fair.
In 2020, I did an ad for Bush’s Beans with a painting of Duke, was a participant in Teens Take The Frist in 2021 at the Frist Art Museum here in Nashville, and donated to the silent auction in support of End Slavery Tennessee that same year.
A more recent painting, Peppers, was displayed in the Frist Art Museum for the Teens Take The Frist 2022 exhibit.
Older now, I continue creating art and hope to for the rest of my life, and to implement these skills into my full-time career. Over the years, creativity has continued to shape many areas of my life, from helping paint a church mural to creating and donating meaningful works of art, to serving on the aesthetics team for a concrete canoe project in engineering school.
I enjoy combining both creative and technical skills in the work that I do. While most people tend to separate art and analytical thinking, I have found that creativity and technical analysis can work together; I never want to be limited to just one skill set, but to utilize them both in whatever I do. Whether through the arts, design, or engineering, I believe it is possible to create work that is both precisely engineered and deeply impactful – work that resonates as powerfully as it functions.
I hope you enjoy viewing my work on this website. Be sure to follow me on Instagram for my latest updates and feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, commissions, or requests for non-profit art donations in the Nashville community.
